7 Things to do In Herne Bay, Kent.

If you already live in the area or are considering moving into Herne Bay then you will find plenty on offer to keep all of the family occupied. 1. Herne Bay Pier

The Herne Bay Pier is a picturesque and family friendly destination. There are plenty of exciting things to do, like riding the traditional carousel or checking out the more modern rides. Whilst the rides are aimed at younger children there are plenty of side kiosks for the competitive adults too!

The pier also has a variety of food and drink kiosks and well as a few well placed shops selling traditional souvenirs.

Whilst you are there you might like to try crabbing. All you need is some string and a meaty treat for the crabs and you can join in the fun before throwing the crabs back of course!

2. Herne Bay Beach

The beach at Herne bay is quite simply wonderful, surrounding the pier the beach is mostly shingle providing the perfect resting spot for a fish and chip lunch in front of the grand victorian architecture, after lunch you can visit one of the arcades that line the seafront, here you will find modern racing, shoot out videogames and of course the 2p machines!

If that’s not enough there is a mini golf course and a lively children’s play area on the seafront too.

3. Reculver Towers

Just a short drive along the coast from Herne Bay is the English heritage site Reculver towers. One of the earliest Roman forts built against Saxon raids, it later became the site of an Anglo-Saxon monastery. Today the striking towers are open to the public and provides an amazing backdrop for a picnic.

There is a small coffee shop offering cakes and light lunches. You will also find a children’s play area on the lead up to the towers, the play park has recently be refurbished and caters for older children as well as toddlers.

Entry to the site is FREE but there is a small charge for car parking.

4. Wildwood Trust

Enjoy a whole host of animals and adventures at the Woodland Park. From wolves to wild boar, see all 200 native animal species in 40 acres of beautiful ancient woodland. After exploring the animals you can let the kids go wild on the amazing adventure playground. including a drop slide, tube slide, tree-top towers for climbing and more!

Wildwood offers an annual pass that is a great way of keeping the kids occupied all year round.

5. Heron’s Leisure Pool

Herons 25m pool caters for all from the fitness swimmer to family fun, with their fantastic inflatables, amazing Water Walkers and of course the giant Flume! There is also a beach area for babies and toddlers so all of the family can enjoy the water. The pool is located just off of the town center so is perfect for browsing the shops after a swim.

6. The Seaside Museum Herne Bay

Featuring a plethora of interesting items, the quaint museum of Herne Bay is a must visit for all of the family. You can find everything from fossils found in the area to a remnants of a bouncing bomb used during WWII. Whilst the museum is small it is a very big part of the Herne Bay community and often participates in local events. They also offer events for children on weekends including crafting and colouring.

7. The Kings Hall

Formally the East Cliff Pavilion, this architectural gem has been welcoming visitors since 1913, the venue now hosts a year round range of entertainment, including live music, comedy, festival events and much more.
